Before You Donate
Donation Guidelines
Please read these carefully before registering or visiting a blood bank.
Eligibility
You Can Donate If...
You are at least 18 years old (or 16–17 with parental consent in some regions).
You weigh at least 50 kg (110 lbs).
You have not donated blood in the last 3 months (90 days).
You are in good health and feel well on the day of donation.
Your hemoglobin level meets minimum requirements (typically 12.5 g/dL or higher).
Restrictions
Do Not Donate If...
You have had a cold, flu, or fever in the past 2 weeks.
You are currently taking antibiotics or other prescription medications.
You are pregnant or have given birth in the last 6 months.
You have a history of HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C.
Preparation
Tips for a Smooth Donation
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water 2–3 hours before donating.
Eat Well
Have a healthy iron-rich meal 2 hours before donation.
Rest Well
Get a good night's sleep before your donation day.
Relax & Breathe
Donating is quick and nearly painless. Stay calm.
